THE TRUE HISTORY OF THE TIMBERDOODLES

HISTORY ACCORDING TO BOO BOO  (OUR FOUNDER)
I was the pres of the LandSharks running the 10's, back when it was on campus (several fields, lotta work) I plopped down mid field at the Nat field to watch some rugby and Nancy Purdin was sitting right next to me. We started talking and she asked why we didn't have a women's club. It just so happened that a couple of girls had approached me that month who had played but.... no team ....and I was busy. I told Nancy I'd put together 10 girls to have an exhibition match the following 10's. Did some school advertising in the fall and ended up with about a dozen freshman. We did our game at the next 10's in 1991 (got spanked) and I thought it was over. Later in the day (after I started to get my drink on and the girls started talking) they came to me and said "Hey Boo... Guess What?  We're going to Albuquerque in two weeks!"
That's really how it happened. I helped them make some money and buy those awful green jerseys (which I happen to like) in the Spring and got them set up as a club sport at NAU. Basically gave them a game plan on how to keep the club running on its own.
The name is a dumb story but it's true. I was writing a paper, looking up a word in the dictionary and came across the word Timberdoodle. When I found it is the American Wood Cock, I thought about how cool that was and especially with the hidden name. The girls voted with some other names but Timberdoodles was selected.
I had help with coaching... Wally of course , Noel Christopher really helped with the backs and Kelly Nicolai (who married one of the original Timberdoodles) helped too.
What do you call a cross between a LandShark and a Timberdoodle? There is at least one on the Earth and I think another on the way.

Boo

THE BET:
In the late 90's the team hit some hard times, but existed as the Timberdoodles for a few years. They changed their name many times (the Pirhanas, the Lady Sharks). But at a fatefull party, a player lost a bet to Kevin Harris, now an LSD player, and agreed to go back to the Timberdoodles.  The official re-naming happened in 2002 and the rest is history!
